At 15, she left home due to her dad’s abuse and chose to live in a cabin instead. He was an alcoholic who would physically hurt her, so she saw him as a clear “bad guy.”
Later in life, Jewel learned her mom had left them because she didn’t want to be a parent, but she didn’t know this when she was younger.
As her career took off, her mom took on a management role. However, this led to her mom controlling her money and causing her to go into big debt, even though she sold millions of albums.
